"My favorite part about yesterday was getting the feeling of being calm and relaxed. It was a good way to release my feelings and emotions that I was feeling that day. Yesterday at first I thought it was weird but as I got more into it, I felt more relaxed. It was a really soothing feeling I had. It really felt like an out of body experience. Yesterday I learned that there are different kinds of yoga and it is good to be accepting towards different kinds of yoga. I can use this experience to do more yoga like that. I now know different calming methods. Thank you James!"Beth
"The best part about yesterday was feeling really calm doing the yoga. After holding the different positions and concentrating really hard on holding the positions, it was nice to relax my arms and close my eyes. The sensation of stillness and calmness and relaxation was amazing. It was fun to do a different type of yoga and compare the different sensations I felt doing the different styles of yoga. Another one of my favorite parts about yesterday was holding the positions (like mountain pose) for a long time and seeing how long I could hold the different poses. I was able to push myself more than I thought I could and that was really exciting- except my shoulders are kind of sore today, though...I enjoyed learning different poses and doing yoga that was more about stillness than movement was really fun and different. Thanks so much for coming to teach us!"Alex
"I really enjoyed experiencing a different type of yoga. I really felt the energy flowing through my body after we did a pose. I think James brought out a side of yoga I would have never thought about. The tension in my face was something I never really paid attention to or realized how it affected my stress in my body. I will definitely use the realization techniques to focus more when I practice yoga. While flowing yoga (vinyasa?) is challenging because it moves so fast from pose to pose, pausing in between and letting the move affect my body and reflect was a new experience. Yesterday yoga was more of a spiritual thing and brought everyday stress and problems into perspective. I hope to continue to practice yoga and some day before/during summer try hot yoga. I'm really open to new things and this would be a fun and exciting experience. "Betty
"I really liked the yoga yesterday because I had major jet lag and I was super tired. Before the yoga I was very tense and irritable. The yoga really helped me relax and de-stress. I had a track meet that day and I think it helped me run better. The yoga was amazing. Probably because I like yoga. I think James was a good yoga instructor. I liked the closing your eyes thing after every pose because it was calming. I really tried to clear my mind and not think about other things like I generally tend to do. The poses weren't too hard, but I liked them because they were fun and relaxing. Thanks! You are stellar!"Yvette
"James, thank you so much for coming to our class and showing us things about yoga that many of us probably had not known or just didn't really realize or understand what yoga is all about. I especially like the breathing exercises we went through because it made all the difference when I actually did the position and stretching. I think what you do is really cool to help people relax and just feel like in a better mood because of the stress taken out of them physically and emotionally. I wish I could do yoga every day like how you showed us because I seriously ended up feeling so amazing afterwards and I told all my friends about. It was pretty obvious to them that I had acted somewhat difference as in a good mood and full of energy. I also had a track meet that day and cleared my best high jump this year. Anyways, thank you once again and I hope to see you again later doing yoga."Steve
Yoga in High School
As you can see from the feedback, high school students can benefit tremendously from yoga. We teach at a level that is guided by the students we are working with so no experience with yoga is necessary. There is no belief component to what we teach although my classes are described as spiritual. The postures are easy enough for most anyone to do. Experienced practitioners and newbies have found my classes to be a great workout with a pervading relaxing component throughout the class and the rest of the day.
